PILATES and GYROTONICS(05/07/2010)

In the States and Canada, Pilates and Gyrotonic are in many studios both on the schedule. Because i am also convinced that these 2 movement disciplines complement each other well, my good resolutions for the New Year were: "Planning my Gyrotonic training ."


By now, i have finished my pre training hours and ready for the foundation, which i will go following in the summer holidays at the European Educational Center in Munstertal, Germany.

The Gyrotonic Expansion System is developed in the USA by Julio Horvath.


What is Gyrotonic?


Gyrotonic is a 3 dimensional and circular form that focuses on the muscles, the fascia, the skeletal system and the nervous system.

It provides training in full mobility of the joints and spine. Additionally, there is a focus on the energetic aspects of the body-mind-spirit connection. The specific breathing patterns support the movements, enhance the flexibility and stability of the body and enhance the cardio aspect of the body too.


The main piece of the Gyrotonic equipment, the pulley /tower , is a weight and pulley system, which provides both the resistance and assistance in all movements, all while encouraging a decompression of the joints.


Gyrotonic is, like PILATES too, a unique trainings system for all ages and each level, suitable for everybody who wants to become and stay souple, strong and healthy, but also for people with specific issues on the back, the hips, the schoulders and the neck.


So to be specific, in my foundation module i'll learn how to teach Gyrotonic.

This training is also a very intensive and long training but i look forward to it and once this module is finished i can start planning how to implement it in my schedule.


Toronto and STOTT PILATES(04/01/2010)

Well in advance i made my reservations for the 7 days CEC workshops at the STOTT PILATES headquarters in Toronto. It's the ideal way to stay abreast of the latest advancement in exercise science and the STOTT PILATES repertoire.

Of course, doing that, i have acquired more than the necessary CEC's for 2OO9. (CEC = continuing education credits a STOTT PILATES Ceritfied Teacher has to acquire in a year) The days are intensive and instructive with motivated Instructor Trainers and workshops of which the material is perfect to apply in my studio.

Some workshops i followed: advanced posture analysis, matwork for breastcancer rehab, intermediate programming on the Reformer V2Max, Pilates with props, pilates with the NEW stability cushion.

Some specific workshops around stability and function of the knee, the shouldergirdle, the lumbo-pelvic region and how to apply with Pilates exercises.

I also had time for some private sessions STOTT PILATES , very much fun!
